The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of over N1.233 trillion and an undisclosed amount of foreign currency, according to spokesperson Dele Oyewale. This recovery occurred during a 34-month frame from October 2023 to July 2026 under the directive of Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
In a press briefing held in Abuja, alongside representatives from various security agencies, Oyewale detailed that the EFCC has secured a total of 10,872 convictions over the same period. He also highlighted the agency’s recent discoveries regarding foreign nationals involved in illegal refining activities in the South-West region of Nigeria.
Oyewale confirmed the recent identification of an illegal refinery and mentioned the arrest of 14 Chinese nationals and a Nigerian in connection with unauthorized lithium processing plants. He acknowledged that initial arrests complicated efforts to capture all individuals involved due to overlapping areas of operation.
Further investigations revealed a site linked to illegal activities; however, upon a return visit, EFCC agents found the facility abandoned, with no arrests made at that time. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further details about the illegal operations.
