Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has vowed to deliver at least half of the state’s votes to President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in the 2027 general elections. This declaration occurred during the launch of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign at Ekwueme Square in Awka.
Soludo announced that APGA lacks its own presidential candidate for the upcoming elections and has chosen to support President Tinubu instead. He stated, “Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our candidate,” highlighting the President’s commitment to the Igbo people and the residents of Anambra.
The governor noted Tinubu’s past efforts, such as appointing several Anambra indigenes to key positions during his presidency in Lagos State. He reminded attendees that APGA had previously endorsed the ruling party’s presidential candidates and characterized the current decision to back Tinubu as a continuation of this trend.
Despite the low turnout in the 2023 presidential elections, where Tinubu received fewer than 5,000 votes from Anambra, Soludo expressed hope that improved support would lead to better engagement with the Federal Government. He urged voters to back Tinubu to enhance the state’s prospects for development and negotiations with the government.
He emphasized the importance of voting for the APC candidate to secure a seat at the decision-making table for the South-East region.
