Leeds United achieved a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, marking the end of Tottenham’s three-game winning streak in the league. The decisive goal came from substitute Noah Okafor in the 79th minute, shortly after he was brought on by Leeds manager Daniel Farke.
The match was marred by controversy, particularly a challenge from Jayden Bogle on Leeds winger Mathys Tel, which went unpunished after a lengthy VAR review. Despite Tel’s injury, which led to his substitution by Dominic Solanke, Bogle remained on the pitch without receiving a booking.
Leeds began the match with a spirited performance, keeping Tottenham on their toes. Early in the game, VAR intervened to deny a penalty after a potential handball by Mateus Fernandes was deemed unintentional. As the first half progressed, Tottenham found their rhythm, although both teams struggled to convert chances.
In the second half, Leeds increased their offensive pressure, with opportunities falling to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nico Elvedi, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Leeds’ persistence paid off when Harry Wilson, another substitute, assisted Okafor for the match-winning goal.
Tottenham nearly equalized late in the game, but Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford made a spectacular save to deny Jan Paul van Hecke’s header. The victory marks Leeds’ first win in six matches, pushing them to eighth place in the league standings.
