Paraguay’s former president Santiago Peña has been placed under house arrest following the unanimous decision by senators to remove him from office over a banking scandal. This scandal is centered on the collapse of Ueno Bank, which has left nearly three million customers unable to access their savings.
Peña has denied any wrongdoing in the matter. In the wake of his ousting, his successor, Pedro Alliana, has committed to compensating those affected by the bank’s failure.
