During a presidential campaign rally on Saturday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu responded to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s critiques regarding economic hardship and hunger in the country. Tinubu accused Atiku and others of contributing to the issues he inherited from previous administrations.
Tinubu emphasized that his government is currently addressing the problems left by earlier leaders, stating, “Those people talking of hunger, I’m cleaning the mess they created. Atiku was one of them.” He challenged Atiku’s credibility by questioning how he managed to build a university while serving as vice president responsible for economic affairs during the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He insinuated that it was the efforts and resources of the people that facilitated such achievements.
Furthermore, Tinubu expressed gratitude to the residents of Rivers State for their support in the recent elections, which he credited for his rise to the presidency. He remarked on the initial uncertainty he faced before the elections but conveyed his appreciation for the trust placed in him by the electorate, stating, “Thank you for the last election. In 2022, 2023, I looked very hopeless, but you trooped out to support me and gave me the mandate.” He concluded by reiterating his commitment to the people and his intentions for a second term based on the confidence they have in him.
