Prof. FAFUNWA deserves gratitude of Nigerians not a presidential denunciation, says USAfrica Publisher Chido Nwangwu
USAfrica, October 11, 2010, Houston, Texas: The distinguished Prof. Babatunde Aliu Fafunwa lived a life of varied distinctions and made definable, progressive impact on the education of millions of Nigerians and Africans. Babs, as he was fondly known, improved humanity and lived as a role model.
Regrettably and ill-advisedly, a few days ago before this public policy giant’s passing at the great age of 87, Nigeria’s President Goodluck took a needless swipe at Babs for, ironically, bringing forth and executing significant primary and high school education reforms to Nigeria.
I humbly request and expect President Goodluck, like he did with the radical activists of MEND on their warnings and claims to have bombed parts of Abuja during the October 1 anniversary, to absolve Babs of his extremely harsh goodbye denunciation of the educationist’s commendable roles as one of the progressive architects of what remains of Nigeria.
It is my unalterable personal position and the institutional position of USAfrica that Babs, in life and death, deserves Nigeria’s gratitude not a presidential denunciation and minimization. Mbaa!!
May I, therefore, convey the condolences of my family and those of the editors of USAfrica multimedia networks in Houston and Nigeria on the death of a great man, a very decent scholar and builder, Prof. Babatunde Aliu Fafunwa.
Signed:
