Atiku emerges as North’s consensus candidate; Nnamani likely pick as VP running-mate.

USAfricaonline.com: Sources very close to the northern Nigeria leadership forum have informed Houston-based USAfrica and USAfricaonline.com that the leaders of the group have settled for the former vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar as the candidate to carry forth the group’s message into the April 2011 presidential elections in Nigeria.
Atiku competed against former military ruler retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki and incumbent President Jonathan’s former national security adviser Gusau.
USAfrica and USAfricaonline.com also can project that Babangida is backing former Senate President Dr. Ken Nnamani as Atiku’s running mate.
Atiku and Nnamani were the arrowheads against former Nigerian President retired Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo’s controversial but failed quest for an unconstitutional 3rd term in office. Obasanjo also effectively raised via his proxies corruption charges and messages which substantially negated Atiku’s image and name. How he will surmount the campaign against Obasanjo’s hand-picked current leader of Nigeria Dr. Goodluck Jonathan (selected as former VP to the former elected President Yar’Adua who died in office, in May 2010. Goodluck Jonathan, was sworn in on Thursday May 6, 2010 as President, following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, reportedly, in the evening of May 5.
USAfrica notes that the 2011 elections will take a more regional, religious twist and the horse-trading of interests and agenda will increase as the northern region of Nigeria makes a group based quest to re-take the presidency of Nigeria’s which most of its leaders say is a continuation of the Yar’Adua 2 years only in office. Jonathan’s supporters insist as former VP he should step forward as he has to seek the election as President of Nigeria. He’s a minority south-south Niger Delta/River man with substantial and critical support among the Igbo, one of Nigeria’s majority ethnic groups located across the east and south eastern parts of Nigeria.
The quests and battles have already started with Atiku’s group swaying and turning several Jonathan support groups to its side; and some political leaders sitting on the wings to join what USAfricaonline.com understands from Atiku’s associates is “the well-oiled political structures of the former VP.”
Again, Nigeria’s frayed, regional and corruptive politics of sharing positions rather than performance seem to be the primary factors as Atiku takes on, again, an incumbent president (this time), one who seems very modest in using the instrumentalities of power compared to the man who picked him. Interesting but complicated and trying days are ahead for Nigeria….

I have said b4 that Nnamani is a SABO!he used all the money he looted to build a multimillion political mansion in ABUJA.
I hope Jonathan gets his acts together to trounce Atiku and his thieving band at the convention
the hawks are back again. when shall we learn our lessons. Nigeria
What about IBB, is he not from the North?
Whatever the North wants to "consent to" is their business. If they feel that Jonathan should not run they should propose and adduce another reason because the one on zoning is so tragically flawed that they are hurting their chances the more if Nigerians are to be truthful and fair to one another. For over 18 years the North ruled Nigeria so what again are they saying about zoning? And who did the zoning? Nigerians or PDP members? Nigerians do not want a candidate for a candidate's sake. Nigerians are tired of uncaring, selfish leaders. To put Atiku into office is like bringing Obasanjo into office, what was it that he could not do that time which he wants to do now?
