Nairobi (AFP): Four Kenyan legislators were named Wednesday in parliament as suspected drug traffickers under police investigation. Internal Security Minister George Saitoti said Harun Mwau, also an assistant minister for trade, Ali Hassan Joho, William Kabogo and newly-elected MP Gideon Mbuvi were being probed.
Saitoti said lawmakers forced him to reveal the names a day after police went into parliament buildings to have one of the MPs record a statement in violation of parliamentary rules.
“I have been asked by members of parliament to give names of those being investigated in this issue of drugs. I am not willing to, but I have been forced,” Saitoti told parliament.
Police began investigating the drug trafficking case after the country’s anti-corruption agency forwarded them a list of suspects it had received from the US ambassador earlier this month.
