Today a great man fell
But who heard the Iroko tree?
It was in that forest that he told many tales
But who among us were wise enough to hear them
Many secrets the grave will keep
How I envy you?
Our guide is no more
Which way shall we go?
Indignant, I wrestled his Spirit
We are yet, but children
Who will take up the mantle?
Who can walk in those shoes?
I entreated, where is my hero?
To which, he replied, “I am not your hero”
I was just a young man who had a war to fight
It matters not the size of one’s shoes
But rather, the breadth and depth of responsibility
I have fought my Biafra
Fight yours!
Remember, it is not one’s esteem of self that makes them great
Rather, it is their willingness to meet, head on, the great challenge of their time
To the greatest of our time
No warrior fiercer, no soul gentler
He saw a better world
And remained faithful to that vision
Until his time came

I SALUTE Aba (aka Enyimba city), the robust and fearless town I was born, bred and raised, for giving the Ikemba, our Ochiagha, Gburugburu, Oka oburu uzo, dike na ndu ma n’onwu, mgbadike anyi, a hero’s farewell.
To the Ikemba, may your valiant soul rest in peace and dignity.
