To achieve this feat, he applied what I may refer to the Obiano theory on effective security. The theory stated that the success of the security outfits depends on their ability to put the criminal on the run; show no respect to anyone in the society. caught in criminal act/aiding and abetting crimes as well as dismissal and prosecution of security agents
caught assisting or involved in any crimes. The key word in the theory is that the security outfits must constantly launch offensive on the criminals. In view of this, the government of Gov. Obiano provided more patrol vehicles and security gadgets to the security men.
One of the worst nightmares we had was criminal activities of all kinds in the state resulting in our people residing outside the state, those in Diaspora not visiting home and commercial activities badly affected .
The genuine efforts of past governments to tackle security challenges must at this point be appreciated. But the operative nature of the security outfit remained defensive. The action may not start till it is reported that a place has been attacked. We locked ourselves inside our houses with burglary proofs waiting to be attacked, even our streets are locked.
Today the story is different in Anambra; we are attacking our attackers, they are on the run.
Chief Willie Obiano explained that he is following this approach because no meaningful development will take place in an insecure environment, adding that since he is in a hurry to develop Anambra and improve the lives of the peoples he must get rid of all obstacles on the way. He praised the security outfit in the state for their commitment and support to the programme.
With this singular achievement, Chief Willie Obiano has not only endearing himself to ndi Anambra but will leave giant footprints in the sands of time.
Obiano has given ndi Anambra a good reason to celebrate. The face of Anambra today is no longer that of check point at every one Kilometer of “wetin you carry” but teams of “eagle eye” security men positioned at some strategic junctions ready for action. There are teams busy moving from one place to another in search of criminals and suspected criminals.
On my way to Onitsha recently, at Nkwelle Ezunaka junction, the policemen saw the Governor’s sticker on my car and commented “this Governor wants to work” and ndi Anambra echoes “no wonder he answers Akpokuedike”. The Governor’s special Adviser on security Chikodi Anara disclosed that Governor’s speed and commitment to security matters and work general in amazing. Anara appealed to ndi Anambra to encourage the Governor to do more by providing necessary security information.
To fully appreciate the magnitude of this great achievement, one need to take a trip to Upper Iweka and head bridge to see how clear, free, peaceful and orderly the place is. Something thought impossible before now. Again the number of areas made since he took over and unpresented peace in our communities are living testimonies. I am very proud of the Governor and plead with him to sustain this good work. The continued co-operation of traditional rulers, town unions and other stakeholders are highly solicited for necessary information on their residents. I recommend his approach towards security to Nigerian leaders and beyond. Carry go Akpokuedike!

On Nigeria’s Boko Haram, New York Times Nick Kristof misanalysis on CNN Fareed Zakaria’s GPS. By Chido Nwangwu

A few minutes ago, today May 11, 2014, on #CNN@FareedZakaria, the continuation of fanciful misanalyses and non-factual views about the root causes and “explanation” for the unrelenting mayhem unleashed by the violent Islamic sect #BokoHaram in#Nigeria were repeated by the award-winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof @NickKristof and Eliza Griswold, author of the new book The Tenth Parallel: Dispatches from the Fault Line Between Christianity and Islam.
Kristof especially, wrongly, argues that Boko Haram and similar groups are driven by economic disparity in Nigeria. not true in fact and logic.
Griswold says with a certain antiseptic disdain that Boko Haram is a “mess.” Simply a mess? After killing at least 2,000 Nigerians within 5 years.
Griswold adds it is more a struggle between moderate and extreme Muslims…. Seriously? I disagree.
First, I know that targeting and slaughtering and bombing, primarily, christians and demanding they leave the mainly Islamic northern region of Nigeria and visiting “unholy” fire and thunder on others they consider “Children of a lesser God” is mechanized, religio-political bigotry. It is not economic; it is not moderates versus extremists.
Second, as a child survivor of the 1967-1970 Nigeria-Biafra war, I know the familiar consequences of mis-analyzing and understating the militarized, offensive moves of bigots, especially armed and well-funded groups such as Nigeria’s Boko Haram.
I will close this brief response, for now; and available to debate the Boko Haram and Nigeria’s religio-political crises, here and elsewhere. •Dr. Chido Nwangwu, moderator of the Achebe Colloquium (Governance, Security, and Peace in Africa) December 7-8, 2012 at Brown University in Rhode Island and former adviser on Africa business/issues to the Mayor of Houston, is the Founder & Publisher of Houston-based USAfrica multimedia networks since 1992, first African-owned, U.S-based newspaper published on the internet USAfricaonline.com; CLASSmagazine, AchebeBooks.com, the USAfrica-powered e-groups of AfricanChristians, Nigeria360 and the largest pictorial events megasite on the African diaspora www.PhotoWorks.TV . IF any of the Nigerian President’s 100 advisers has the polite courage for the extraordinary task of reminding His Excellency of his foremost, sworn, constitutional obligation to the national interest about security and safety of Nigerians and all who sojourn in Nigeria, please whisper clearly to Mr. President that I said, respectfully: Nigerians, at home and abroad, are still concerned and afraid for living in what I call Nigeria’s Federal Republic of Insecurity.
