The Learned One (Mallam) Moyo Jaji peace be unto you (asaalam aleikum)! I salute you.

I write this piece to you hinging on the following:
1. That you are a learned gentleman well versed in Islam (a way of life) and knowledgeable on the State called Nigeria (a country yet to attain Nationhood). And well heeled amongst the Leaders of the UMMAH.
2. That an adage says “An adult do not watch a Goat deliver kid on tethers.
3. That when rain falls it does not fall on one man’s head or roof.
4. That though I am not a Moslem I was taught about Islam and Islamic Ummah by some erudite scholars and also read some of the works of great moslem minds and scholars like Ibn Khaldun (see his Magnus Opus known as “The Muqqadima”) in which he espoused the concept of the ASSABIYA, Ibn Rushd (Averoes), Ibn Sina (Avessina) etc.

Please permit my inadequacies as I was not opportune to enjoy as much scholarship as you and also hunger has pushed me to the streets in several parts of the world to search for daily bread being “fatherless” in the Nigerian system. Hence I may no longer recognize what a book is like again. I also let you know that I am neither as intelligent nor smart like some of the people likeMonday Ubani you might have met.

I will not like this micro thought of mine to translate that Islam has been an alibi for violence since the succession disputes after the First Caliph (Khaliffa) ABU BAKR (632-634 AD) the first successor of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Though Caliphs Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (634-644 AD), Uthman Ibn Affan (644-656 AD) were all assassinated, that of the FOURTH CALIPH (Khalifah) ALI Ibn Abi Talib (656-661 AD) by the Kharijites became the straw that broke the camel’s back and culminated to another BATTLE OF ALEPPO in SYRIA (no prejudice to the present day human carnage in same spot).

I will also not like to be labelled as another Salmon Rushdie if I refer to the marriage of PROPHET MOHAMMED (PBUH) to the nine year infant being  a desideratum or justification for betrothing minors to Sheikhs and mighty men of valour in today’s UMMAH. As a MALLAM do you not think that that noble act by the Prophet (PBUH) was an act of benevolence exigently carried out or an act being of spacio-temporal dimension. Except such circumstance repeat itself it was not meant to be a paradigm. After all there was and can only be only but one Prophet of ALLAH that came with message AL NABIYA and that allusion is bestowed to PROPHET MOHAMMED (peace be unto him). The last and final message of ALLAH was given to him and the Holy QURAN.

The Holy QURAN, Al-Baqarah: Verse135 says: “And they say: be ye Jews and Christians, then ye will be rightly guided. Say unto them, O Mohamed, nay but we follow the religion of Abraham, the upright and he was not of the idolators”.

 Prophet Muhammad PBUH really made an epochal move to show Islam (622 AD) is a religion of peace by facilitating the TREATY OF HUDAYBIYYA that ushered lasting period of peace between non Moslem Makkah and Moslem Medina in 628. The Prophet also reduced to the barest BLOOD FEUD among the ARABS and compensation in blood became monetized and only direct culprits paid the supreme price.

The Prophet hated discrimination, thus this famous quote of his:
“An Arab has no superiority over a non- Arab and a White man has no superiority over a black man, nor a black man over a white man – except by piety and good actions”.

REVERBERATIONS OF THE EVENTS IN ALEPPO

Erudite Mallam Jaji just like present day problems of Nigeria took its roots from two most notable events: the DECLARATION OF THE CALIPHATE in Sakkwatto 1804 and the AMALGAM of 1914 by two prominent individuals who who hadinstruments of COMPULSION and COERCION – Khaliffa Uthman Danfodiyo and Lord Lugard. For any Lugard, a Flora is always handy.

The demise of Khallifa Ali Ibn Abi Talib and the attendant miasma created leadership, ideological and spiritual vacuum or hiatus within the universal Moslem community or the UMMAH. Fifth columnists took over thus different camps of ideologues emerged. There came the SEVENERS, THE TWELVERS, THE SUNNIS, THE SHIITES, THE MAHDISTS (the Mahdists had a tinge of judaist teleology or eschatology (the segment of theology dealing with death, judgement, and the final destiny of the soul and of humanity). This is why they believe in the coming of the GRAND MAHDI akin to the coming  of the MESSIAH in Christendom.

To fill the spiritual vacuum came the the SUFISTS or SUFISM who practice Islamic mysticism and other mundane acts. Several BROTHERHOODS sprouted. Today you have among the lot the Tijanniyya, the Quadriyya, the Ahmadiyya etc etc.

TO YOUR TENTS OH ADHERENTS!

With the above you can imagine the scenario (“like a broken china in the sun” ) of what befell the beautiful religion – a way of life, pure and simple devolving on humility and TOTAL SUBMISSION TO THE WILL OF ALLAH and ONENESS of ALLAH (Al-Ikhlas), the most merciful and the most benevolent!

For Prophet Mohamed had declared in MAKKAH: “Today I have perfected for you a religion Al-Islam, way of life” The QURAN (Al-Ma’idah: verse3). Islam was delivered in totality welding devotion (religion), governance, trade and commerce ( abhorrence of usury and profiteering), morality and law (Shariah) and scholarship. This can be better explained if we refresh our memory on the Ottoman Empire, before the Seljuk Turks the Ottoman Empire had a well segmented system of administration. They were the ones that gave us the civil service we practice today. The act of appointing deputies (The Vizier)
originated from them.

Scholarship and inventions were the hallmark of Islamic scholarship. It was the early Moslem scholars that preserved Hellenistic civilization.
Muslims rediscovered lost sciences of Architecture, Engineering, Medicine, Astronomy, Agriculture etc.

THOMAS AQUINAS the famous European theologian borrowed extensively from the works of AVERROES (Ibn Rushd) to sow the seeds of European Rennaissance, check out the famous Painting: THE SCHOOL OF ATHENS  by Rennaissance Artist RAPHAEL.

Now contrast this with burning of institutions of learning today by The group known as BOKO HARAM (The official name of the Boko Haram group is actually: Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, which in Arabic means “People of the Sunnah (the practise and examples of the Prophet Muhammad’s life) for Preaching and Jihad Group”.

ISLAM: a shining beacon against the murky lane of repression, segregation, intolerance, hatred and racism has become a ready tool at the hands of misguided conspirators to make life unbearable. These are in contradistinction to the tenets of ISLAM.


CRY OUR BELOVED CLERGIES

Enough of delving into the wilderness of Islamic scholarship which it’s scope cannot be compared to the vastness of SAMBISA FOREST. The crux of this rantings by a half baked semi illiterate like me is why would a beautiful religion as ISLAM be hijacked by misguided ideologues into a collegiate theatre of violence and savagely spilling of blood incomprehensible beyond the annals of human civilization and the TRUE MOSLEM UMMAH and the LEADERS remain “siddon look”.

Please tell them that as predicted THE BABOONS AND THE MONKEYS ARE SOAKING IN BLOOD. Soon it may spread to the ELEPHANTS, TIGERS, CHIMPANZEES AND THE OSTRICHS etc.

Ibn Khaldun concept of the ASSABIYA is about societal GROWTH and DECAY. The rise and fall of empires, entities, conglomerates. Optimum growth leading to ultimum decay like PACK OF CARDS.

TODAY is yesterday’s TOMORROW. TOMORROW will be a TODAY. Time to ACT is NOW for nobody has seen TOMORROW.
