South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) is reporting that the country has recorded 14,728 new COVID-19 cases — within the last 24 hours. Report was made today Wednesday, August 18, 2021. A total of 384 more COVID-19-related deaths escalate the death toll to 78,377.
The demographic profile shows that the Western Cape region recorded the highest cases — reflecting 3,931 new infections in the same 24 hours. Kwa-Zulu Natal followed with 3,750 new infections. Coming up third is Gauteng which recorded 1,756 new infections.
