ABUJA: The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council’s Director General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has announced a target of 2.3 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election scheduled for January 16. Yari made this declaration during the APC presidential campaign rally held in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Addressing supporters, Yari emphasized the party’s commitment to mobilizing voters to reach this goal. He urged the audience, particularly supporters of the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, to help secure the votes needed for Tinubu.
Yari highlighted that the target was within reach, referencing voter registration data he obtained from coalition leaders in the state. He noted that with 3.3 million registered voters and approximately 2.8 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected, aiming for 2.3 million votes is a realistic objective. Furthermore, he expressed confidence that the party should achieve at least 80 percent of this goal.
Additionally, Yari criticized the opposition, stating that those currently vying for power had been in leadership roles without delivering effective results. He specifically mentioned prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as part of that group.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also spoke at the event, noting that Rivers is the only state in the South-South that Tinubu won decisively during the previous election and expressed optimism about replicating that success.
National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, reiterated confidence in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, claiming they represent the best option for Nigeria currently. Senator Magnus Abe, while representing Rivers stakeholders, defended the coalition focused on returning the president to power despite differing interests among its members.
