A major association of Nigerian women in the U.S has expressed its concerns regarding the urgent issue of the 276 teenage girls abducted from Chibok, Borno state on April 15, 2014 by the Boko Haram Islamic fundamentalists.
Umuada Igbo USA, an umbrella organization of Igbo women and daughters in America, in a news release sent to USAfrica, CLASSmagazine and the IgboEvents e-group called on “the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to take decisive and meaningful actions to ensure the safe release of the innocent girls. It has been almost 24 days since the Chibok girls were kidnapped from their school and the Nigerian government is yet to locate and return these teenage girls to their parents.”
In the statement signed by Princess Nnenna Unaka (National President), Dr. Ujunne Akpuaka (National Vice President), Lolo Angela Ofoegbu (National Secretary), Princess Adaku Olumba (California chapter President), Chief Mrs. Vivian Abadom (Maryland-DC chapter President), Mrs. Chinelo Nwangwu, Esq. (National Representative) and Lady Dorothy Akpamgbo, Esq. (National Patron), the influential group stated that “Nigerians, at home and in the diaspora, are dissatisfied at the slow response by the government regarding this urgent issue. We expect the Nigerian government to do all within its power to crush the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to face the law. Mr. President, we are wary of committees, incessant meetings, and empty promises not backed by any meaningful actions.”
They called for coordinated action not only to ensure the safe return of the 276 Chibok girls to their parents but also to permanently annihilate the Boko Haram terrorist group. “We say “No” to terrorism, to senseless killings and bloodshed, to kidnapping of innocent children, and violence! We refuse to succumb to fear, which is what the terrorists want us to do.
Umuada Igbo USA called on “Nigerians to stand and fight for our innocent girls, our children, and our families; for good will always prevail over evil.”

IF any of the Nigerian President’s 100 advisers has the polite courage for the extraordinary task of reminding His Excellency of his foremost, sworn, constitutional obligation to the national interest about security and safety of Nigerians and all who sojourn in Nigeria, please whisper clearly to Mr. President that I said, respectfully: Nigerians, at home and abroad, are still concerned and afraid for living in what I call Nigeria’s Federal Republic of Insecurity. WHY I CELEBRATE THE LIFE AND WORKS OF NELSON MANDELA. By Chido Nwangwu https://usafricaonline.com/2010/07/15/mandela-why-i-celebrate-his-life-works-by-chido-nwangwu/
—— 2014 book: In this engaging, uniquely insightful and first person reportage book, MANDELA & ACHEBE: Footprints of Greatness, about two global icons and towering persons of African descent whose exemplary lives
and friendship hold lessons for humanity and Africans, the author Chido Nwangwu takes a measure of their works and consequence to write that Mandela and Achebe have left “footprints of greatness.”
He chronicles, movingly, his 1998 reporting from the Robben Island jail room in South Africa where Mandela was held for decades through his 20 years of being close to Achebe. He moderated the 2012 Achebe Colloquium at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.”I’ll forever remember having walked inside and peeped through that historic Mandela jail cell (where he was held for most of his 27 years in unjust imprisonment) at the dreaded Robben Island, on March 27, 1998, alongside then Editor-in-chief of TIME magazine and later news chief executive of the CNN, Walter Isaacson (and others) when President Bill Clinton made his first official trip to South Africa and came to Robben Island. Come to this island of scourge and you will understand, in part, the simple greatness and towering grace of Nelson Mandela”, notes Chido Nwangwu, award-winning writer, multimedia specialist and founder of USAfricaonline.com, the first African-owned U.S-based newspaper published on the internet, in his first book; he writes movingly from his 1998 reporting from South Africa on Mandela. http://www.mandelaachebechido.com/
