USAfrica: Another negative event has occurred a few hours to Nigeria’s twice postponed parliamentary April elections with a deadly explosion which killed 11 persons in the evening of Friday April 8, 2011in Suleja, near the federal capital Abuja. The bomb targeted the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Suleja, Niger State.
A recording of the dead show them to be mainly youth corps members on national service.
Meanwhile Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, a candidate in the April 2011 elections has described the attack as “mindless bomb attack which claimed the lives of several Nigerians, including members of the National Youths Service Corps engaged in preparatory work for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in the country.”
Insecurity and logistical/planning problems have cast a dark, questionable shadow on the elections,
