A major development in the global fight against the coronavirus is breaking overnight. The US Food and Drug Administration granted Abbott Laboratories Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to a COVID-19 test which, USAfrica learned, delivers positive results in five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes.
It runs on Abbott’s ID NOW platform, the most popular point-of-care test in the US., is also used to test other viruses including Influenza A&B, Strep A and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Abbott has promised to escalate its production to 50,000 units per day beginning first week of April 2020.
