President Jonathan cancels #Chibok visit where Boko Haram abducted 220 schoolgirls; leaves for France

USAfrica: Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan is on his way to France for an economic and security conference, having cancelled what would have been his first visit (today Friday May 16, 2014) to the
predominantly christian community of Chibok where the Boko Haram Islamic group kidnapped about 220 teenage school girls since April 15, 2014.
USAfrica sources indicate he cancelled the visit due to “some security concerns about Boko Haram activities in Borno.”
Several key Nigerians and Chibok community leaders had called on the President to make the morale boosting visit to the families in the traumatized town in the north eastern Nigeria state of Borno. Borno and Yobe were the strongholds of the violent sect Boko Haram who have reportedly moved closer to Nigeria’s north eastern borders and the Sambisa forest. An extension of the “state of emergency” became effective today via a decision by the national assembly of Nigeria.
USAfricaonline.com news index on Boko Haram show that the group has killed at least 3,000 persons with emphasis on targeting christians in the northern Nigeria.
The limitations of the Nigerian government’s efforts in trying to locate the Chibok Girls was described in some details by Nigeria’s Information Minister Labaran Maku who said in Abuja on May 2:
“Extensive and intensive aerial surveillance by the Air Force has been carried out in all the routes leading into and out of Chibok up to the Chad and Cameroun borders. Other parts of Borno and Adamawa states are also under the searchlight. Every information relayed to security agencies has so far been investigated, including the search of all places suspected as a possible hide-away of the kidnapped girls…. The police, backed up by the military and DSS, have combed and are still combing all reported places that the girls might have been taken to….”
The U.S is leading a network of international set of military/security team to assist Nigeria in the rescue effort.

A few minutes ago, today May 11, 2014, on #CNN @FareedZakaria, the continuation of fanciful misanalyses and non-factual views about the root causes and “explanation” for the unrelenting mayhem unleashed by the violent Islamic sect #BokoHaram in #Nigeria were repeated by the award-winning New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof @NickKristof and Eliza Griswold, author of the new book The Tenth Parallel: Dispatches from the Fault Line Between Christianity and Islam.
Kristof especially, wrongly, argues that Boko Haram and similar groups are driven by economic disparity in Nigeria. not true in fact and logic.
Griswold says with a certain antiseptic disdain that Boko Haram is a “mess.” Simply a mess? After killing at least 2,000 Nigerians within 5 years.
Griswold adds it is more a struggle between moderate and extreme Muslims…. Seriously? I disagree.
First, I know that targeting and slaughtering and bombing, primarily, christians and demanding they leave the mainly Islamic northern region of Nigeria and visiting “unholy” fire and thunder on others they consider “Children of a lesser God” is mechanized, religio-political bigotry. It is not economic; it is not moderates versus extremists.
Second, as a child survivor of the 1967-1970 Nigeria-Biafra war, I know the familiar consequences of mis-analyzing and understating the militarized, offensive moves of bigots, especially armed and well-funded groups such as Nigeria’s Boko Haram.
I will close this brief response, for now; and available to debate the Boko Haram and Nigeria’s religio-political crises, here and elsewhere.
